Staying Warm

This week we talked about how animals stay warm during the winter. Hibernating being one way we built our own classroom cave, we tried it out! There was lots of sleeping, grrring and laughter! (Please ignore the wads of cords.....taking care of those asap....)

We also learned some things about penguins! We learned that blubber is what helps to keep penguins warm so we used crisco to make a blubber glove. We used a bowl of ice and the blubber glove to see if the blubber really keeps your hand warmer...and it does!! Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of this :(

Did you know that daddy penguins carry the egg for two months?? In between their feet??? Of course, we had to see if we could do it too!!

We then used goldfish (penguins are predators of fish) to help us understand some new math concepts: equal and how many more.

We are also having a coin drive to help buy some books for the schools that were affected by Hurricane Sandy this past year. There is a competition between the students and teachers-I think the students definitely have the numbers but we'll have to see about the money!! Send in your coins!!

Don't forget that this next Thursday, January 24th is a fundraiser at Beef O'Brady's. If you go, 15% of your purchase will help the school with some cool things (i.e. new playground equipment and electronics). Don't forget to tell them that you are with FCA!
