Red Ribbon Week

Just a few pictures from Red Ribbon Week!
Say Goodnight to Drugs!

Team up against drugs!

Black out drugs!!

Spiders!

During the week of Halloween we learned some pretty cool stuff about spiders! We learned that spiders have oily legs and that is why they don't stick to their webs but their pray does! Spiders also poison their prey to make them turn into liquid then they suck the prey up!! Here are some pictures to show our explorations!!

Trying to make our fingers stick but the oil won't let them-just like spiders and their webs!!

We used sugar cubes as our "prey", dropped green Kool-aid on the top as our "poison" and then sucked the prey up through the straws!! (Don't worry, we washed the tables first and they all had their own straws and sugar cubes:)

Do you think spiders are creepy or cool? We collected and graphed our answers!

Precious girls singing to our awesome God.
They are great at working together:)

Recipe for Success

We wanted to kick off the year by being reminded that success is getting things done and that there are a lot of things that go into that! Some of the things that go into success are: teamwork, honesty, patience, stamina, creativity, positivity, kindness and hard work! We used food to represent each of these things, mixed it up and ate up the success as chefs!!

We are finally in the swing of things!- September 3, 2012

Hi Parents!
I have finally posted pictures from our first two weeks of school and they are oh so cute! We have been busy bees and have really been enjoying getting to know one another.

Week 1: We took a tour of our school and did a scavenger hunt in the classroom so that we feel safe wherever we are! We reviewed our letters and numbers-everyone knows almost all of them!! Thank you, thank you for this!! We read and discussed being ourselves and how we are the same and different. Goals and Christ like habits were discussed and examples given. We ended our week with a class building activity called recipe for success-see pictures in album Rec. for Success for more. Great first week!

Week 2:
Our sight words: you, for, said, it and up-we discussed what these words are and practiced using them. At parent night on Tuesday, September 4, we will talk more about sight words and I will send the list home.
We learned about our five senses and how they work. Check your child's folder this week for your child's five senses book.
And yes, we did have chocolate chip cookies in class this week-we used the smell to inspire our writing. If you would like to read your child's journal come in anytime!
In math, we practiced writing our numbers, calendar skills and focused on the words same, different and matching.

Week 3: THIS WEEK!
******Tuesday******Curriculum/Parent night*****Tuesday,September 4 at 6.***********
Sight words: all, ate, have, but, eat
In social studies and science we will be learning about where we live. We are going to be trying to memorize our addresses-mainly what country, state and city we live in. PLEASE practice this at home! (Knowing at least one parent's phone number would be great too!)
In math, we will continue to focus on what is different and what is the same but using measurement words: long, short, tall, a pair. We will also learn about making groups of ten. It is always a great idea to have your students practice math facts at home. Target has some cute addition flash cards!

This Friday is Harish's birthday and next Thursday is Talan's. If you see them on these days please wish them the very best day!!
