Veggies Week

This past week we studied about vegetables. In Kindergarten we get to learn about what plants need to survive and also how to compare and describe them. Since fall is the harvest season for most vegetables, we talked about fall and farms some too.

It is always fun and engaging to integrate our subjects! We started the week by reading The Carrot Seed and learning to re-tell a story. The kiddos were tickled that they could do it without the book!
Here is the book and a few pictures of us practicing. I hope that they have gotten to re-tell the story to you!

Here are a few other pictures of your Kindergartners doing what Kindergartners do!

Everyone's favorite ;) (We frequent abcmouse.com btw)

Working hard together!

Helping others!

Having fun with candy corn!

Arts and crafts.

Below are a few pictures of us learning how to record information using tally marks. Notice that we drew the pictures and then marked them off after each tally mark to ensure that we got the accurate results!

We got to end the week by experiencing a semi-actual Farmer's Market! We learned about what Farmer's Markets are and how they are different than regular stores. Of course, we got to try some fruit and veggies!
                                                           Very interested in the radishes!

We tasted celery, carrots, radishes, apples, grapes and tomatoes.

Fruits have seeds!

There were mixed opinions about the tastes!

In math we learned some new vocabulary-taller than, longer than and shorter than.
We practiced by learning that we measure from top to bottom and then compared our pictures!

More pictures from throughout the week:

I sent home a sight word homework packet today and this is the incentive I was talking about!
Once each student knows all of their quarter 1 sight words, they will get this creepy witch finger-that they all loved! It also doubles as a great pointer for our little readers! Just another tidbit-beginning readers should always point to the words as they read them. This helps them prevent guessing and helps them know which way words go on a page so they can read anything they pick up!

Ever get something in your child's folder and don't really get what the point is?? Well here is an activity we did today: Our read aloud was Fall Mixed Up which had pumpkins turning red and ghouls riding brooms! We read it and then categorized things that go with fall.

Have a great week and don't forget to read, read, read!
