January-February

We started the new year off by writing narrative pieces and let me just say that these guys were so happy to share them!! We did a little speed read session where we practiced reading our stories to each other. They made me SO proud with their reading and writing progress!! Such a great way to start 2014!!

In January, we also learned about Penguins. Here we are exploring the idea of having equal amounts. Percy the penguin loves to share, but only if it is equally! We then, of course, got to eat the gold fish, which is the highlight of the day in Kindergarten!!

God created penguins with three layers to keep it warm!! Here were are discovering the blubber layer! The Ziploc bag is actually a blubber glove (Crisco in between two Ziploc bags). We discovered that the blubber does indeed keep your skin warmer! God is a great designer!

Is it non-fiction or fiction? Each student picked a book and explained to the class what category it fell into and why.

Birthdays are another highlight of our lives!! Look at those smiles!

Daddy penguins have to carry their sweet little eggs for up to two months without dropping them into the cold! We had to see for ourselves how difficult this is!

February is Dental Health month!! Guess which smile belongs to your little cutie!

We practiced the technique of flossing and brushing correctly.

We experimented with eggs and drinks and the effect the coloring has on our teeth. We put a white egg in milk, apple juice and coke. Here were our results!

Happy 100th day of school!!!

We had a race to  find 100 pieces of candy hidden around the room!

We then played "100 Seconds to win it!" We did a little pom pom throwing through a hoop, sorting shapes and stacking pennies-each group had 100 seconds to complete each activity. We worked on our team work and sportsmanship skills that day:)

Hopefully you got to use our valentine math word problems booklet at home. Using the heart manipulatives really makes math more concrete for these mathematicians!

Decorating valentine cookies was therapeutic if not exciting for us all! Thanks so much to the moms who could come help with this!

Giving and receiving valentine's cards is a dream come true! They all seems so excited to give to others rather than to see what they got!! Loved that!

We also studied about needs versus wants and why we need jobs. Each student got to research a job they would like to have!

We've been learning about coins and presidents so Connor brought is very cool state quarter collection as well as a few presidential golden dollars! The kids were very interested!!

We just began learning about measurement. Here we are tracing and measuring our own feet as well as practicing measuring with non-standard units.

Thank you for being patient with me when it comes to putting up new posts! As you can see, we are a busy bunch! Thank you again for making your students eager and willing to learn!!! I am so thankful!!
