Re-telling a Story

Here are some ways that we have practiced re-telling a story in the classroom plus some other great ideas!

Bible retelling sticks - velcro and tiny pics - creation, Kings of Israel & Judah, 10 Commandments, etc. - good visual and hands-on activity http://handsonbibleteacher.blogspot.com/2012/04/paint-paddles-turned-bible-facts-review.html
Draw, cut out and glue pictures onto a ruler or paint stirrer.

Fun For First: maps, I like beginning with me on the map and then using the Three Little Pigs story to make a map.
3-D Pictures!

Story time with rocks.
Story Rocks!

Story Retelling
Story Rope: color, cut out, and glue picture to yarn!

Speech Room News: Polar Bear's Friends! Retelling Polar Bear, Polar Bear Book with stuffed animals!
Use props and stuffed animals from around the house-remember they have better imaginations than us!

By - 'The "Unworking" Mom': Old McDonald Had a Farm. She got the animals at Hobby Lobby and just hot glued them to Popsicle sticks. The barn is scrapbook paper and ribbon - IShe used modge podge to adhere the paper to form board and than hot glued the ribbon on top of that....

Popsicle Stick Puppets for Gingerbread Man (printable)
And Popsicle stick puppets.

Again, please don't stress and worry about making this fancy! It is simply a way for your student to show what they know about the parts of a story!

Fall Activities

Here are a few pictures of some fall themed activities we have been doing!

Matching these number cards together has helped the students with their number sense. We have been practicing how to identify a number in more than one context.

We sorted some candy corn and practiced using tallies and totals!

We introduced the idea of measuring by going from head to toe (end to end)!

This past week we learned about Veteran's and other American symbols. Their journals will be coming home soon so check those out and talk over these symbols with them! This is one activity where we estimated and predicted the size of the Statue of Liberty's foot compared to our class standing side by side.

The students are standing on some green tape that I measured to 25 feet (the length of Liberty's foot!). Here they are looking to see if our class is longer than, shorter than or equal to the size of her foot.

They were so impressed with how big her foot was that they were a little offended so THEY decided to lay down and make it to where our class was actually longer then her foot :)

Red Ribbon Week

We had a great time "fighting off drugs" this past week! Thank you for involving your kiddos! They looked great and enjoyed every second!

Put drugs to sleep day! They LOVED being in pj's!

Put up a fight against drugs day, dressed in camo!

We mustache you not to do drugs!

Don't grow up to do drugs! Career day!
